Shylock Sings the Blues: The Story of a Man Who Stands up to Bigotry

Vermont-based lyricist and illustrator David Sokol and composer Dennis Willmott replace ShylockShakespeare’s iambic pentameter and prose with blues, rock, and country songs in a contemporary re-telling of Shylock’s story. Set in 1950s Venice, New Jersey, we hear Shylock’s story about his determination to stand up to bigotry at any cost.

The music Shylock Sings the Blues has received widespread acclaim and was performed this year at the Burlington Jazz Festival.

Flynnspace on January 16-19.
