For a decade, we have dreamed and we have dared. In 2015, we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Game Studio. To honor our Game alumni and mark the 10th Anniversary of the Game Studio, we have established the GDC Scholarship Fund. This Scholarship will directly support an outstanding Game Studio Senior’s attendance at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. The GDC provides students with the opportunity to connect with Champlain alumni, interact with industry leaders, and network with potential employers. Any student who has attended GDC will tell you that its impact is tangible, meaningful, and lasting.
History of the Game Studio
The Game Studio started a decade ago with one major in Electronic Games and Interactive Development. The first graduating class consisted of just thirty-five students. Ten years later, 434 students are enrolled in the four different majors that comprise the Game Studio. Today, the Game Studio is among the top game programs in the United States, ranked #16 by the Princeton Review alongside institutions such as University of Southern California, University of Utah, and Rochester Institute of Technology.
Evidence of the strength of the Game programs is in the success of our alumni. Game Studio graduates are employed coast to coast and in Montreal by companies such as Warner Bros. Games/Turbine, EA, Sony Studios, Bungie, and Microsoft. Our employment rate is consistently in the 80% range, and our alumni are also pioneers in the entrepreneurial space with recent launches of two successful companies: Game Theory developing for the “social good” space, and TooDX publishing for the WiiU.
The first decade of the Game Studio was one of rapid change, excitement, and excellence. With the Fall 2015 opening of the new Center for Communication and Creative Media featuring new game labs and display spaces, we look forward to another successful decade!
Let us continue to dare! Audeamus!
